Custom Pillow Boxes in Seattle

Seattle enquiries are coffee-shaped. Drip bags, sample sets, subscription boxes and the tasting formats roasters use to introduce a new origin — all of it working to conventions that are quite specific to specialty coffee and quite unlike general food packaging.

The technical detail that catches most roasters is coding. A roast date is applied after the box is made, and a laminated panel will not reliably accept it. Leave an uncoated window in the design and the problem never arises.

Quote for delivery to Seattle

Production and transit quoted as one date, so you can plan around it rather than around a production time.

PDF, AI, EPS, PSD, JPG, PNG or ZIP, up to 12 MB. Nothing to send yet is fine — we can quote from a description.

We reply with a written quote and a specification. Your details are used to answer this enquiry and nothing else — see our privacy policy. You can also email info@thepillowboxes.com.

Designing a tasting set

  • A divided interior with a defined position per origin
  • The inside face printed with each origin named in place
  • A common single-sachet box design across the whole range
  • An outer band carrying the set name and the roast date
  • Enough room for tasting notes without crowding the origin

Put the money in the inner, not the box

Coffee stales through oxygen exposure and paperboard is not a barrier to it. The sealed sachet or valve bag does that work; the box is presentation and protection.

Understanding that is liberating. It means the box can be an uncoated kraft carton with a single-color print, which is both what most roasters want aesthetically and the cheapest thing we make.

Supplying Seattle: common questions

Where does the roast date go?

On an uncoated or coatable panel, sized generously enough that a slightly misaligned code still lands inside it. A laminate resists most inline coders.

Should I spend more on the box for freshness?

No. The sealed inner is the barrier; the box is not. Money spent on a heavier coated board in the hope of extending freshness is money in the wrong place.

How should a tasting set be arranged?

A divided interior with each origin in a named position. A box of identical unlabeled sachets is confusing rather than premium.

What information should lead the design?

Origin, then process, then roast level. Specialty buyers scan in that order, and a pack leading with the brand makes them work harder.

Do you have a Seattle facility?

No. We supply Seattle roasters and ship to Seattle addresses; we do not operate premises in the city.
