Weight changes everything about the specification
A pillow box holds its shape through tension in the curved ends. Put a heavy object in the middle and that tension is fighting gravity — the faces pull in, the box sags, and the pack looks defective even though nothing has torn.
The answer is a heavier board than the dimensions alone would suggest, and often an internal support that holds the faces apart. Give us the filled weight of the candle, not the container size, and we will specify from that.

Safety copy is not optional
Burn instructions and warnings are required in the markets we serve, and they are usually the longest single block of text on a candle pack. Some brands put them on a base label instead, which is legitimate and frees the box for design — but it has to be decided rather than discovered.
What we ask is simply that you tell us early where the copy will live. If it belongs on the box, the reverse panel is spoken for and the front panel design has to work within that.

What board weight do I need for a candle?
It depends on the filled weight rather than the dimensions. Send us the actual weight of a finished candle and we will specify a board that holds its shape — this is the single most common cause of a disappointing first order in this category.
Can a glass candle be posted in a pillow box?
Only in an E-flute construction with a base pad, and even then we would discuss the value and fragility with you. For heavier glass jars a rigid outer is often the honest recommendation.
Where should burn instructions go?
Either the reverse panel of the box or a base label on the container. Both are used; the important thing is deciding early, because it determines how much of the box is available for design.
Do you supply inserts for tealight sets?
Yes — a divided board tray keeps a set of votives or tealights in position and stops them rattling. It is quoted with the box.
Should the box stand up or lie flat?
Standing shows the front panel on a shelf and takes less shelf depth, which suits candles well. It needs a base engineered for the weight, which we do as part of the dieline.
Will the box protect a candle from scent transfer?
Board is not a fragrance barrier. Strongly scented candles should stay lidded or wrapped inside the box, particularly if several scents ship in the same outer carton.
Can the box hold a candle in a glass jar safely?
For retail and hand delivery, with a base pad and a snug fit, yes. For unaccompanied shipping we would specify E-flute, and above a certain weight and value we would recommend a rigid carton instead.
Will fragrance escape through the board?
Yes. Paperboard is not a fragrance barrier, and a strongly scented candle will perfume a whole outer carton. Keep the candle lidded or wrapped if you are shipping several scents together.
Can a candle box double as a display piece?
A standing format does that well, keeping the front panel visible on a shelf. It needs a base engineered for the weight, which we draw into the dieline.
Do you supply a wick trimmer or accessory compartment?
We can add a divided section for a small accessory. It uses internal depth, so it is worth deciding before the box is sized rather than after.
