Granola Bar Pillow Boxes

Snack bar packaging carries an unusually heavy information load. A nutrition panel, an ingredient list, allergen highlighting, a claim or two, and a flavor name all have to fit on a pack that is barely bigger than the bar itself — and the nutrition table has a fixed structure that cannot be compressed to fit.

On a pillow box the reverse flat panel is the working surface for all of that. Designing the front before knowing whether the back actually fits is the most common way these projects go wrong.

  • Reverse panel sized around the nutrition table first
  • Single-bar and multi-pack outer formats
  • Flavor identification designed to read at arm's length
  • Kraft and coated board, matching natural or bold positioning
  • Board specified to your contact requirement
From $0.30 per piece — final pricing depends on size, material, quantity, printing, finish and inserts

What happens next

  1. We read the brief

And come back with questions rather than assumptions if something is missing.

  2. You get a written quote

With the specification stated — board, printing, finishing and any tooling.

  3. We draw the dieline

Cut to your product, with the usable print area and crease zones marked.

  4. Sample, then produce

A physical sample in the final board before a full run, where it is worth it.

Build the pack from the back forward

  1. Lay out the nutrition table

It has a required structure and a minimum legible size. Set it first and see what space remains — do not try to fit it in later.

  2. Add ingredients and allergens

Allergen highlighting rules differ between the markets we serve. Whichever applies to you, it takes space and cannot be shrunk away.

  3. Place the batch and date coding

Leave a coatable area if it is applied inline. A fully laminated panel resists most coders.

  4. Check what is left

If the mandatory copy fills the reverse, the front is your only design surface. That is workable, and it is better to know at the start.

  5. Design the front around the flavor

At shelf distance the flavor name does more work than the brand. Size it accordingly.

What makes a bar pack sell

  • The flavor readable from a meter away, not just in the hand
  • A clear claim if you have a legitimate one — protein, no added sugar
  • Color coding across the range so flavors are distinguishable at a glance
  • A pack shape that stands or hangs in a counter unit
  • Consistency across the range so the shelf block reads as one brand

Single bars and multi-packs

A single-bar box is an impulse item at a till or in a grab-and-go fixture. A multi-pack is a planned purchase from a shelf. They are different products commercially even when the bar is identical.

The efficient structure is a printed single-bar pack plus an outer that holds four, six or twelve. The outer can be simpler and cheaper because it is not doing the point-of-sale work, and it lets you sell both formats from one bar wrapper.

  • Printed single-bar box for grab-and-go
  • Simpler printed outer holding a multi-pack
  • Same bar and inner wrap across both formats
  • Outer carries the multi-pack nutrition and claim copy

Granola Bar Pillow Boxes: common questions

Answers to what customers most often ask before ordering this specification.

Will the nutrition panel fit on a single-bar box?

Usually yes, but only if it is laid out first. It has a required structure and a minimum legible size, so it determines the space available rather than fitting into what is left.

Does a flow-wrapped bar need a food-grade carton?

Only if the bar touches the board directly. Flow-wrapped bars make the box a secondary pack with a simpler specification.

How should I distinguish flavors?

Color coding plus a large flavor name. At shelf distance the flavor does more work than the brand, and customers scan for it first.

Should I do singles or multi-packs?

Usually both, from the same wrapped bar — a printed single for grab-and-go and a simpler outer for the multi-pack. It gives you two products from one production run.

Where does the batch and best-before coding go on a bar pack?

On a clear, coatable area. If the panel is fully laminated most inline coders will not adhere reliably, so leave a window for it.

Is kraft board a good fit?

It suits natural and wholefood positioning directly. Bold or saturated artwork needs a white base over brown board, which our kraft specification page explains.

Can the box hold a bar that is not wrapped?

Only with a food-contact specification, and even then an unwrapped bar will dry out. Almost every bar in this category is flow-wrapped first, which makes the box a secondary pack.

How do I fit a nutrition panel and a claim on the same pack?

Lay out the panel first at its minimum legible size, then see what remains for the claim. If both do not fit, the claim goes rather than the panel being shrunk.

Can one box hold two bars?

Yes, and a two-bar format is a useful price point between a single and a multi-pack. A divider keeps them from sliding against each other.

Is a window worth adding to a bar box?

Rarely. The bar itself is not visually distinctive and the window takes space the nutrition and ingredient copy needs.
