Recipe kits are the interesting format
A single spice blend in a box is a simple product. A recipe kit — three or four sachets, a printed method, sometimes a measured pack of a specialty ingredient — is a much stronger one, because it sells an outcome rather than a component.
It also uses the pillow box format well. Several flat sachets sit naturally in the shallow profile, a divided interior keeps them in order, and the inside face gives you somewhere to print the method where the cook will actually find it.
What a kit box has to carry
- The dish name, prominently — it is what the customer is buying
- The method, printed inside or on a separate card
- What the cook needs to add themselves, stated clearly on the front
- Ingredient and allergen copy for every sachet in the kit
- Serving count and any dietary indication you can substantiate
Staining and aroma control
A partially sealed or paper-only sachet is not enough for ground spice. Turmeric in particular migrates through paper and stains anything it touches, and it will show through a kraft box within days.
A properly sealed foil or film inner solves it and also contains the aroma, which matters when several blends ship in the same outer carton. It is not a packaging decision the box can rescue.

Will spice stain the box?

Where should the recipe method go?
The inside face of the box is ideal — it is visible when the pack is opened and it costs far less than a separate printed card. A card is better if the method is long.
How much space do allergens need in a kit?
More than a single blend, because the copy has to cover every sachet. Plan the reverse panel around it before designing the front.
Will one blend scent the others?
If the inners are not properly sealed, yes — and it happens in the outer carton rather than in the box. Sealed inners are the only reliable control.
Is kraft suitable?
It suits the artisan and wholefood positioning this category takes and prints beautifully in one or two colors. Staining is the risk, and that is an inner-sachet issue.
Can one box design cover a whole blend range?

Can the box hold whole spices as well as ground?
Yes, and whole spices are more forgiving because they neither stain nor migrate the way ground spice does. The sachet requirement is lighter as a result.
Will the box smell of the spice after storage?
The board will take up aroma over weeks even through a sealed sachet, which is normal and not a fault. It becomes a problem only when different blends share an outer carton for long periods.
Can I print a recipe on a separate card rather than the box?
Yes, and for a longer method a card is better — more room, easier to read while cooking, and it can be updated without reprinting boxes.
How do I show the heat level of a blend?
A simple printed scale on the front panel is the clearest approach. Keep it consistent across the range so customers can compare blends at a glance.
