Custom Pillow Boxes in Portland
Portland briefs arrive with a strong and consistent aesthetic: uncoated stock, one or two colors, illustration rather than photography, and as little plastic as the product allows. It is a coherent brief and, usefully, one of the cheaper specifications we produce.
The constraint worth knowing early is color. A pale or pastel palette does not survive over brown kraft without an opaque white base, and a lot of natural-brand color schemes are exactly that. Bleached kraft or an uncoated white solves it while keeping the paper character.
Quote for delivery to Portland
Production and transit quoted as one date, so you can plan around it rather than around a production time.
Getting the most from one color
- A dark ink on natural kraft — the cheapest branded pack there is
- Illustration and line work rather than photographic imagery
- A blind deboss adds a second visual layer with no extra ink
- Jute twine and a paper tag instead of any printed extras
- Uncoated stock, which suits the look and takes a pen
Where a natural brief runs into a technical limit
Pale colors over brown board turn muddy, because there is no white beneath them. Soft sage, blush and cream — the mainstays of natural brand palettes — are exactly the shades affected.
The fix is either an opaque white printed first, which adds a press unit, or a bleached kraft that keeps the fiber texture with a lighter ground. We will tell you which is cheaper for your specific artwork rather than defaulting to one.

Why did my pale colors look muddy on kraft?
There is no white beneath the ink, so the brown board shows through. An opaque white base or a bleached kraft stock fixes it.
Is one color really enough?
For illustration and line work, usually yes — and it looks more considered than four colors used timidly. It is also the cheapest branded pack available.
Can I have a genuinely plastic-free box?
Yes: unlaminated, no film window, paper-based closure, deboss instead of foil. We will describe accurately what it can claim.
Will an uncoated box survive on a shop shelf?
For a product that sells through reasonably quickly, yes. Over months of open-shelf handling expect edge wear; a water-based varnish helps without adding plastic.
Do you have a Portland facility?
No. We supply Portland brands and ship to Portland addresses; we do not operate premises in the city.
