Custom Pillow Boxes in Montreal
Montreal is the one market where we regularly lay out a pack in French first and fit the English around it, rather than the other way round. Quebec's language requirements are more specific than the rest of Canada's, and a design built on an English layout usually has to be redrawn rather than adapted.
Doing it in the right order costs nothing and avoids the most common and most expensive rework we see on Canadian projects.

Production and transit quoted as one date, so you can plan around it rather than around a production time.
Design French-first
French copy is typically fifteen to twenty per cent longer than the English equivalent, and Quebec requirements about the prominence of French add a second constraint on top of the length.
Laying out the French first and then fitting the English means the longer language sets the type size and the panel allocation, which is the only order that works on a pack this small.
What we need before artwork
- The final French copy, not a draft to be translated later
- The English version alongside it, for the same panel
- Confirmation of any prominence requirement you are working to
- The minimum type size you need to hold
- Whether a separate label will carry any of it

Should the pack be designed in French first?
For Quebec retail, yes. French is longer and carries prominence requirements, so building the layout around it and fitting English afterward is the order that works.
How much longer is French copy?
Commonly fifteen to twenty per cent. On a small panel that is the difference between legible and not.
Do you advise on Quebec language requirements?
No. We print what you supply and make sure the space exists. What is required and how prominent it must be is your determination.
Can both languages be on the same panel?
Yes, side by side or stacked, provided both stay legible at the minimum type size. Splitting across two panels is the alternative when space is tight.
Do you have a Montreal office?
No. We supply Montreal businesses and ship to Montreal addresses; we do not operate premises in the city.
